Sequatchie County Release Records Explained
A Sequatchie County release means that one agency's custody episode ended. It does not always mean the person returned to the community. A person may leave the Sequatchie County Justice Center on bond, after dismissal, when a county sentence is satisfied, or under a probation order. The same person may instead be committed to the Tennessee Department of Correction, moved to another county, delivered to the U.S. Marshals Service or ICE, hospitalized, or reported deceased. The destination is crucial. A live custody view is built to show people presently held, so released Sequatchie County inmates generally fall off that view after processing.
The jail's release record is the durable local proof. It states how a named booking ended and can tie the event to the booking number, time, disposition, and receiving agency. The local court file explains the legal authority, such as a bond order, dismissal, judgment, probation order, or commitment. FOIL, Tennessee's state offender search, then shows the state sentence or supervision chain when TDOC is involved. Those records overlap, but they do not serve the same role.
- Discharge
- The end of a custody or supervision obligation shown by the responsible agency.
- Time served
- A disposition stating that the custodial part of the sentence has been satisfied.
- Parole
- Conditional release before sentence expiration after Board action and approval of a release plan.
- Probation
- A court-ordered community sentence or a determinate-release outcome supervised outside a jail or prison.
- Detainer
- A request or notice from another authority that may cause a transfer instead of community release.
Sequatchie County Inmate Release Types
The words printed in a release disposition control what can safely be concluded. Bond and recognizance end pretrial detention, but the criminal case remains open. Dismissal, nolle prosequi, no true bill, or acquittal describes a case result that may remove the local custody basis, though a different hold can remain. Parole and probation mean physical confinement has ended while legal supervision continues. A transfer or commitment is not release to the community.
| Release type | What it means | Next record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial custody ends under court-set terms | General Sessions docket and bond order |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The listed case no longer supplies a custody basis | Court disposition plus any other hold |
| Time served or satisfied | The custodial portion shown in the judgment is complete | Judgment, custody-day calculation, and release record |
| Probation or parole | The person is in the community under supervision | FOIL, court order, and supervising office |
| Transfer or commitment | Custody passes to another agency | Receiving jail, TDOC, USMS, or ICE system |
| Deceased | Custody ends but not through community release | Originating agency record |
Can a person be off the jail view but still confined? Yes. A transfer to TDOC or another legal custodian ends the Sequatchie booking display without ending confinement. Check the destination field before calling the event a community release.
Note: A bond notation confirms release from that booking, but the linked criminal case and its court dates can remain active.
Sequatchie County Release Record Fields
A useful request identifies the person and asks for the existing record tied to one booking. Supply the full name, date of birth if known, an approximate booking range, booking number, and case number when available. Ask for the actual fields, not a new narrative. A phone response can guide the search, but documentary proof comes from the jail record and the court order that authorized the disposition.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Release date and time | When Justice Center custody ended for that booking |
| Releasing facility | The facility that processed the event |
| Disposition or type | Bond, court release, sentence completion, probation, transfer, or another recorded outcome |
| Authority | The order, sentence event, or agency basis behind the release |
| Destination | Community release or the receiving custodian when transferred |
| Booking and charges | The booking number and charges connected to that custody episode |
| Hold notation | Whether another agency's hold or detainer affected the departure |
A booking photograph belongs to the arrest record. It does not prove guilt or release. Request it as a separate existing item if it is needed for identity confirmation. No official Sequatchie online booking-photo policy or released-person archive was verified.
Request Sequatchie County Release Records
Sequatchie County's adopted public-records policy and request form permits inspection requests orally or in writing to the office that holds the record. A copy request is made in writing on the form. Inspection is free. The policy lists copies at $0.15 per black-and-white page and $0.50 per color page. Labor may be charged after the first hour, outside vendor cost may apply, and prepayment may be required. Fees of $1 or less may be waived.
- Identify the named booking with a full name, date of birth if known, booking date range, and booking number if available.
- Ask for the existing booking and release record, including the release date, time, disposition, and recorded transfer destination.
- State the desired copy format. Pickup is the usual delivery method; USPS is available with postage, and an office may offer email.
- Ask for a cost estimate before charges pass a limit that you choose. The custodian may ask for proof of Tennessee citizenship.
- If access is not prompt, look for a response within seven business days that produces records, cites a denial basis, or gives a reasonable production time.
Justice Center Records Contact
Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office / Justice Center
351 Fredonia Road, Suite A
Dunlap, TN 37327
(423) 949-7750
Fax: (423) 949-5827
The historical policy lists seqsheriff@bledsoe.net, but that address should be verified before sensitive identifiers are sent. The current county street address controls over an older address or officeholder shown in the policy. A seven-business-day response is an initial response rule, not a promise of full production by that date.
For state custody history, use the TDOC archived-record request. Ask for the release or discharge date and type, certificate, sentence-computation and Release Eligibility Date history, supervision start and end, and any nonconfidential photograph. TDOC gives a charge estimate and has not published a verified numerical retention period for the whole offender file.
Sequatchie County Release Record Law
The Tennessee Public Records Act framework appears in Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 10-7-503 and 10-7-506. It opens records to Tennessee citizens unless another law makes the material confidential. Inspection should be prompt and is normally free. Copies and reasonable labor may cost money. Tennessee has no single statewide store for all jail, court, and corrections records, so each request must go to the office that created or keeps the item.
Expungement under Tenn. Code Ann. § 40-32-101 begins in the court of origin and is not automatic. Dismissal, no true bill, arrest or release without charge, acquittal, and nolle prosequi can qualify for a no-cost path. Diversion and some convictions follow different rules. Once entered, the court sends the order to the arresting agency, jail, TDOC, and TBI. A valid order can therefore change what a later Sequatchie release-record response or FOIL result shows. No official source states that the county keeps a released person online for any set time because no release archive is published.
The Tennessee courts expungement overview shows that the court where the case began controls the process. The captured source image below anchors that court-origin rule to the state procedure.
An expungement order should be confirmed with the court. If an official agency still shows the matter, provide the certified order through that agency's correction process.
Sequatchie Release Data Needs Context
TDOC's monthly county-jail report supplies a point-in-time population, capacity, and state-backup snapshot for Sequatchie. It is not an annual release count, booking turnover total, or person-level release list. Its value is narrower and more useful: it shows that people in a county building may sit within a state legal-custody chain. A disappearance from the county layer may mark a move in that chain rather than freedom.
No supported Sequatchie annual-release statistic was found, so no estimate should be derived from a one-day jail count. Confirm an individual event from the release record, court order, and receiving system. That approach avoids turning an agency planning report into a claim it cannot support.
Note: A monthly custody snapshot measures who is held at one point, while a release record documents how one named booking ended.
Which Sequatchie Court Record Explains Release?
Sequatchie's release explanation often remains in a locally held General Sessions or Circuit/Criminal document. Request the docket sheet and the item that controls the issue: bond or recognizance order, dismissal, nolle prosequi entry, no-true-bill entry, judgment, sentence, custody-day order, probation order, commitment, satisfaction, revocation, or expungement order. A case number is best. A full name and narrow arrest or filing date range can also help.
The Sequatchie Circuit Court Clerk is Karen L. Millsaps at 351 Fredonia Road, Suite B, Dunlap, TN 37327; (423) 949-2618. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The official Circuit Court Clerk directory is the local contact path. General Sessions commonly holds the early criminal record, while Circuit/Criminal holds felony judgments and later proceedings.
Tennessee's online Public Case History searches appellate courts. It is not the Sequatchie trial docket. The state appellate case-history page may be useful after an appeal, but a local no-result says nothing about whether a bond or release order exists.
The screenshot reinforces the jurisdiction limit. For the underlying Sequatchie release event, contact the local clerk instead of treating an appellate no-result as no case.
ID After Sequatchie County Release
Tennessee's official driver-service locator lists the Sequatchie County Clerk at 22 Cherry Street in Dunlap as a driver-service location. That gives a person leaving custody a local place to ask which state identification or driver-license replacement transactions are available. The exact transaction should be confirmed before travel because a listed service site may not handle every document need.
This local route concerns restoring personal documents after release. It does not prove a release date, replace the jail record, or show the terms of supervision. Bring whatever identity and residency documents the state service requires, and ask the clerk about the current transaction before visiting.
Note: Confirm the available identification transaction with the Sequatchie County Clerk before traveling to the Cherry Street driver-service location.
Find Sequatchie County Released Inmates
Start with the last known legal custodian. The Justice Center is the first source for an ordinary local booking. FOIL is the right downstream search after a Tennessee felony commitment or state-supervision event. The local court explains the legal disposition. VINELink records selected custody events and can send alerts. BOP and ICE cover different federal layers. Moving through those sources in order prevents a missing live result from becoming a false claim of release.
- Call the Justice Center at (423) 949-7750 and choose option 1 for an inmate inquiry. Ask whether the named booking ended and whether the result was community release or transfer.
- Request the existing jail release record when exact date, time, type, or receiving agency must be documented.
- Check the local court docket and controlling order. Do not substitute the appellate Public Case History for a county trial record.
- Use TDOC FOIL for a current or former Tennessee felony offender, a commitment to TDOC, parole, probation, or an inactive state record.
- Use VINELink for a named custody event or notice. Match the contributing agency and distinguish release from transfer.
- Use BOP for a sentenced federal inmate and ICE ODLS for the immigration layer. A local federal pretrial detainee may instead remain under USMS authority.
The sheriff's official site is under construction and does not expose a verified roster, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, or released archive. The current Sequatchie sheriff page shows that limitation.
Because the official page supplies no feed, a named-person call and existing-record request are the sound local fallback. A commercial current-inmate page cannot establish a Sequatchie release.
Note: Ask for the precise release disposition and destination, since the date alone cannot distinguish community release from an agency transfer.
Sequatchie Released Inmates in FOIL
The Tennessee Department of Correction's Felony Offender Information Lookup covers people currently or formerly in TDOC custody or supervision. It does not cover each Sequatchie misdemeanor or pretrial jail booking. For a state-chain search, use the official FOIL search form, then compare identity, TOMIS number, status, location, offense, sentence details, and available release information.
| FOIL path | Fields | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Last name, first name, race, include aliases | Use when no state ID is known |
| TOMIS/TDOC ID | Exact state offender number | Strongest direct identity match |
| State ID/SID | Exact state identification number | Alternate exact-number route |
| Access control | CAPTCHA with audio option | Required before results open |
An incarcerated status is current physical custody even if a future Release Eligibility Date appears. Parole or probation with a community office means physical state confinement has ended while supervision continues. Inactive is a former or inactive TDOC record, not a guaranteed synonym for successful discharge. When the closing event remains unclear, request the archived TDOC record. Details on confirming supervision appear in the Sequatchie County Post-Release Supervision resource.
The official form image below shows the verified name, TOMIS/TDOC ID, SID, and CAPTCHA routes.
Those fields help match the right person. They do not turn FOIL into a county recent-release feed, and an eligibility date is not an actual release date.
Sequatchie Release Alerts and Registries
TN SAVIN covers county-jail custody events from all 95 Tennessee sheriffs, while TDOC separately supplies state-correction events through VINE. Search a named person in VINELink, select Tennessee, match the contributing agency and identifier, then read the event. A county release alert applies to that county custody event. A transfer alert is different. If TDOC later receives the person, the state-correction layer becomes the relevant source.
VINELink is a status and notification system, not a historic release certificate. Register before an expected event when possible and use the local record for the release type. A no-result does not prove freedom. Call the Justice Center or the VINE line at 1-888-868-4631 when an identity or event cannot be matched.
The TBI Sex Offender Registry is relevant only to a person required to register. Its status, address, report date, and registering agency can corroborate community reporting for that covered person. Registry presence is not a general release date, and most released Sequatchie inmates will not appear there.
Note: Preserve the contributing agency and event label from each alert because county release and TDOC transfer describe different custody changes.
Federal Sequatchie Custody Release Checks
The Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. Search by register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number, or by name with race, age, and sex refiners. A past Release Date with no facility, or a Released or Not in BOP Custody result, proves only that BOP custody ended. Federal supervised release or another custody system may still apply.
A federal pretrial detainee can be housed in a local jail under U.S. Marshals authority without becoming a sentenced BOP inmate. USMS has no comparable released-prisoner locator. In that setting, the federal docket and release order are stronger public paths. ICE's Online Detainee Locator uses a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact name, date of birth, and country of birth. It covers current detainees and some people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days.
An immigration detainer can keep a person for up to 48 hours beyond the ordinary local release point so DHS may take custody. A Sequatchie-to-ICE handoff is a transfer, not community release. No Sequatchie-specific ICE detention contract or 287(g) arrangement was verified.
Sequatchie Release Status by System
The correct search changes with the custody layer. A current jail view answers who is held now. A jail release record answers how one local booking ended. FOIL follows Tennessee felony custody and supervision. Federal and immigration sources answer only for their own agencies.
| Situation | Best source | What it can prove |
|---|---|---|
| Still at the Justice Center | Justice Center option 1 | Current local custody and inquiry routing |
| Local booking ended | Jail release record | Date, time, disposition, and destination if recorded |
| State prison or supervision | TDOC FOIL | State status, location, sentence, and release information |
| County or TDOC event alert | VINELink | Reported release, transfer, or other covered event |
| Sentenced federal custody | BOP locator | Release from BOP custody on the displayed date |
| ICE custody or recent ICE release | ICE ODLS | Current ICE custody and some recent releases |
When two sources conflict, retain the exact label, date, agency, and identifier from each result. Ask the originating custodian to resolve the difference. Never choose the online result that merely looks most convenient.
Rhea Detainees Released from Sequatchie
Rhea County's official jail information says crowding can cause some Rhea detainees to be housed at the Sequatchie County Justice Center. Physical location and legal custody can therefore point to two counties. A person held in Dunlap may remain tied to a Rhea booking, charge, and court chain.
When that person leaves a Sequatchie view, contact both the holding facility and the originating sheriff. The Justice Center can address the physical departure. Rhea's jail or court record may control the booking disposition and legal authority. The same principle applies to TDOC backup inmates held in the county building. A move from Sequatchie may continue state custody rather than end it.
Note: For an out-of-county detainee, confirm both physical departure from Sequatchie and the legal disposition recorded by the originating jurisdiction.
Sequatchie County Release Facility
The Sequatchie County Justice Center is the only verified detention facility in the county. The Sheriff's Office operates it at 351 Fredonia Road, Suite A, Dunlap, TN 37327. The main number is (423) 949-7750, and E-911 routes inmate inquiries to option 1. County information describes the facility as available around the clock, though that does not mean copy requests are processed at all hours.
No separate Dunlap municipal jail was verified. No TDOC prison, federal prison, or ICE detention center was verified within Sequatchie County. Those statewide and federal systems still matter as possible receiving custodians after a person leaves the Justice Center.
The official county sheriff directory confirms the operator, address, phone, and 24-hour contact.
Use that contact for local status routing. Ask for records-unit hours before making an in-person request for a release document.
